Environment Canada releases last minute Special Weather Statement for Toronto

Apr 11 2017, 2:12 am

Remember how nice it was an hour ago and how it had reached 22°C by 1 pm…

Well, that was all well and nice but you probably noticed that the sky above Toronto has turned a particular colour of forbidding in the last half hour.

And that’s because the city is expected to get hit with a thunderstorm over the next few hours that could see heavy downpours and winds up to 80 km/hr.

Take over, Toronto. And don’t forget to bring your umbrella out with you this afternoon.

You can read Environment Canada’s Special Weather Statement below:

A line of thunderstorms will race northeastward across Southern Ontario between 3 and 6 PM this afternoon.

Some of the thunderstorms may produce wind gusts to 80 km/h, pea to marble sized hail and frequent lightning.

Heavy downpours suddenly reducing visibility to less than 1 km are also possible. Motorists should exercise caution.

The thunderstorms are expected to move northeast out of the region by evening.
