Update: The weather statement has been lifted. There are no further weather advisories for Toronto at this time.

While parts of downtown are currently sunny, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Toronto.

Issued just after 1 pm, the statement warns of isolated thunderstorms producing small hail and gusty winds this afternoon.

“Isolated thunderstorms, capable of producing wind gusts to 70 or 80 km/h and pea sized hail, will move through the region this afternoon,” reads the statement.

“Environment Canada meteorologists will continue to monitor these thunderstorms closely.”

The weather agency notes that its severe thunderstorm warning criteria are “2 cm hail, wind gusts to 90 km/h, and 50 mm of rain in an hour or less.”

Currently, Environment Canada is showing it is 21°C.

Its hourly breakdown shows a chance of showers and risk of thunderstorms after 2 pm, before clearing up for rush hour.
