The top 5 speakers to check out at Elevate Tech Fest in Toronto next week

Canada’s leading tech and innovation festival, Elevate, is dropping into Toronto this month. And with it comes a whole host of events and speakers that you won’t want to miss.

From a conversation with Michelle Obama to Martha Stewart, here’s a list of who to catch at Elevate from September 20 to 26.

Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama served as First Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017.

“As a transformative First Lady, Mrs. Obama launched and led four key initiatives: Let’s Move!, to address the challenge of childhood obesity; Joining Forces, to support veterans, service members and their families; Reach Higher, to inspire young people to seek higher education; and Let Girls Learn, to help adolescent girls around the world go to school,” reads her event bio on Elevate’s website.

Martha Stewart

Martha Stewart is the founder of the first multi-channel lifestyle company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, an entrepreneur, bestselling author of 95 lifestyle books to date and Emmy award-winning television show host. On Tuesday, September 24, Stewart will be discussing “Elevating Cannabis on a Global Stage” at the tech festival.

Chris Hadfield

A heavily decorated astronaut, engineer, and pilot, Colonel Chris Hadfield’s many awards include the Order of Canada, the Meritorious Service Cross, and the NASA Exceptional Service Medal. He was named the Top Test Pilot in both the US Air Force and the US Navy, and was inducted into Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame. This year’s Elevate theme is Moonshots, celebrating 50 years since the lunar landing. And Hadfield will chat about “How we got to the moon.”

Masai Ujiri

Masai Ujiri is in his seventh season as President of the Toronto Raptors, leading the team to the most successful period in franchise history, including an NBA Championship. The Toronto Raptors’ President joins Gillian Riley, the force behind digital bank Tangerine, to discuss leadership, visionary thinking, and what it takes to win.

Jillionaire

Christopher Leacock, better known by his stage name Jillionaire, is a Trinidadian DJ and music producer. He is better known for being a member of the American electronic music group Major Lazer, along with Diplo and Walshy Fire. As of early June 2019 Jillionaire has departed the supergroup to focus on solo projects. The artist will be in Toronto next week as part of the “Moving at the Pace of Culture” panel, and will be joined by Paul Burns of Twitter Canada; Director X of Operation Prefrontal Cortex, and Dervla Kelly of Corus.
