Police arrest man suspected of sexually assaulting a child at home daycare in Whitby

Durham Police say that they have arrested a 39-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting a young child at a home daycare in Whitby.

The suspect, Christopher Benson, of Catkins Crescent in Whitby, has been charged with indecent exposure, invitation to sexual touching, sexual assault, and making under-14 sexually explicit material available. He was held for a bail hearing.

Police say the investigation into the suspect began after the victim, a young girl who was four years old at the time of the assault, brought forward allegations against him.

The sexual assaults are alleged to have taken place between February 2018 and June 2018, when the suspect allegedly victimized the child as she attended a home daycare center at a residence on Catkins Crescent, where the suspect lived.

Investigators are assuring the public that there are no other victims.
