Are you down for a dip?

A very big and very cold (but heartwarming) charity dip is coming to Oakville on January 1.

The Courage Polar Bear Dip is a fundraising event for World Vision, where jumpers pledge $25 or more for the privilege of plunging into the cold waters.

On New Year’s Day, thousands of dippers and spectators will converge on Coronation Park, Oakville, for the 34th annual event, and dippers of all ages are welcome.

In addition to the cold-water plunges, there will be live music, food stations and a costume contest, with prizes for the most imaginative attire.

It’s set to be great fun, all for a great cause.

World Vision is the largest non-governmental provider of clean water in the developing world, providing a new person with clean water every 10 seconds. According to their website, the Courage Polar Bear Dip is the largest dip of its kind, so participants can really feel great about the impact of their involvement.

This year’s financial goal is to raise over $120,000 in funds. If cold-water swims are your thing, check out the site for more info about how you can get involved.

So grab your snowsuit and your swimsuit, and get ready to take a dip.
