Several brands of deli meats recalled over possible Listeria contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public about several brands of deli meats that have been recalled.

Levitts Foods Inc. is recalling its Compliments brand, Levitts brand, and The Deli-Shop deli meat products from the marketplace due to a possible Listeria contamination.

Consumers are being warned not to consume the recalled products.

Recalled products include the 175-gram Compliments Montreal-style smoked meat, smoked beef pastrami, and corned beef. Levitts 150-gram corned beef, Montreal-style smoked meat, and New York-style pastrami have also been recalled as well as The Deli-Shop sliced pastrami.

The federal food agency says the products have been distributed in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec.

There has been one reported illness that could be associated with the consumption of these products. Pregnant women, elders, and people with weak immune systems are particularly at risk, says the CFIA.

The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.

The CFIA is verifying that the industry is removing the recalled products from the marketplace.
