95 charges laid in Toronto Thorncliffe park gun and gang investigation

Almost a dozen arrests and countless charges have been laid in alleged shooting incidents that occurred in the Thorncliffe Park area as of late 2019.

According to a news release, Toronto Police’s Gun and Gang Task Force and Centralized Shooting Response Teams began the investigation after an increase in firearm-related violence in the area and around the GTA.

Their investigation laid eyes on a man named Salman Jogiyat and his associates who allegedly committed “violent acts against targeted individuals for the sole purpose of monetary gain and retribution,” said police.

“The arrests today significantly disrupt gun and gang activity that has been jeopardizing community safety in that area and in other areas of the city,” said Superintendent Steve Watts, Organized Crime Enforcement.

On September 3, 2020, a series of search warrants were done at nine Toronto and three Cambridge, Ontario, addresses.

About half a kilogram of cocaine, about 18 pounds of marijuana, MDMA, and about 65 grams of fentanyl were seized in total.

Seven firearms and $100,000 in Canadian cash were also seized from individuals.

Eleven people were arrested and 95 charges were laid among all of them.

Fourteen charges have been laid on 19-year-old Salman Jogiyat, eight counts of Conspiracy to Commit Murder, two counts of Attempt Murder, and four counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm are just a few of the charges.

Moosa Jogiyat, 20-year-old of Toronto, is charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Participate in a Criminal Organization, Commission of an Offence for the Benefit of a Criminal Organization, and Conspiracy to Commit Murder.

Mothusi Sebape, 25-year-old of Toronto, is charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, three counts of Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Participate in a Criminal Organization, Commission of an Offence for the Benefit of a Criminal Organization, and two counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance.

Sufyan Jogiyat, 25-year-old of Toronto, faces four charges, and 24-year-old Saleha Jogiyat of Toronto faces four charges.

Seven charges have been laid on 31-year-old Ryan Ally of Toronto; 21-year-old Aun Ali of Toronto is facing three charges, 19-year-old Hasna Amir of Cambridge is facing three charges, 22-year-old Justin Ramroop of Toronto is facing four charges, and 19-year-old Abid Patel is facing four charges.

According to police, they will all appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on October 6, 2020, at 11 am.

Another suspect, 20-year-old Daniyal Bakharia of Toronto, is facing two charges.

Toronto Police are still looking for 26-year-old Sufyan Dadabhai, who is wanted for Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Participate in a Criminal Organization, and Commission of an Offence for the Benefit of a Criminal Organization.

Sadi Zalloum, 26-year-old of Toronto, is also on the run and is wanted for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine.

“They are alleged to be engaged in ongoing, criminal activity. They are considered armed and dangerous. If located, do not approach. Call 9-1-1,” said police.
