"Far too early" to say if Canada's Wonderland can reopen in May: MacLeod

Ontario’s Heritage, Sport, Tourism, and Culture Minister has said it’s too soon to say if Canada’s Wonderland can reopen as planned in the spring.

Lisa MacLeod shared a statement on Twitter following news that the theme park hopes to open its gates to the public on May 14.

“Our government continues to monitor the ongoing COVID-19 closely, but it is far too early to speculate on how and when restrictions will be loosened to permit Canada’s Wonderland to reopen,” MacLeod wrote.

The Minister noted that she would continue working with “large scale attractions” across the province so that they can reopen safely.

Canada’s Wonderland confirmed its prospective reopening date to Daily Hive, but added that it would continue to monitor provincial guidelines.

The theme park has released a number of protocols in advance of its eventual reopening, including that guests must pre-book their visit and undergo a temperature check before entering the grounds.

To date, Ontario has seen 264,300 COVID-19 cases and 6,072 virus-related deaths.
