I took the Buick Encore GX on an out-of-city road trip and it really surprised me

Leaving Toronto in the rearview and getting outside the city limits to enjoy a day trip is one of the highlights of the fall season.

But, if you’re anything like me, you know that not every car is suitable to navigate traffic, parking, and highway driving. Thankfully, the Buick Encore GX Avenir has been designed for just that.

To see firsthand the power of this beautiful car, I got the opportunity to test drive the car for a couple of days and embark on an out-of-city mini day trip!

My GPS was programmed for Hamilton, and with my boyfriend in the passenger seat, we set out on the road.

Waterfalls ahead

The first stop was the beautiful Tews Falls, a very popular waterfall in Hamilton that draws hundreds of spectators each year. But before we push-to-start and go chasing waterfalls, I had to face that darn Toronto traffic.

It was made a little easier by the fact that the Encore GX is an absolute dream to drive. It’s smooth, easy to navigate, and comes with six standard safety features. Using its ultra-wide 11 inch infotainment display, we set our course to Hamilton with just a few taps — and all we had to do was focus on the journey ahead.

As we finally approached Tews Falls, we noticed that the leaves were just beginning to turn — a hint at the bold colours set to come in the coming weeks.

Though the falls were a bit low due to the lack of rain, it was still a spectacular natural sight to see, especially given how close we were to the city.

My favourite part of this visit was the elevated viewing platform, which placed us right among the trees and provided a breathtaking view of the valley below.

Next, we made our way back into Hamilton proper, driving through the picturesque neighbouring area of Dundas.

We had arrived within the city just in time for the weekend Supercrawl, a three-day street festival with tons of stalls, entertainment, food, and great music. Since the festival was just gearing up, parking was extremely limited.

Not proving as a problem for the Encore GX, awkward street parking was totally handled thanks to the back, front, and surround vision. This resulted in a beautiful park job on the very first try.

Arriving just as the festivities were beginning, we got to feel the excitement generate and build throughout the night!

Out on the streets, we meandered through the crowds and stopped to look at some locally made art and jewellery. We also grabbed a couple of treats, like some tacos and lemonade, and made sure to stop at my favourite ice cream shop — Willard’s Ice Cream.

We also stopped to hang out on the patio at The Brain, a cozy, cute spot serving craft beers, bespoke cocktails, and to-die-for baked goods. Here, we caught the breeze and marveled at the crowds of people strolling in for the night, just taking all the vibes in.

When it was all said and done, we returned to the Encore GX, with a beautiful day behind us.

A full day of driving fun

As the sun started to dip, we headed back to Toronto, still buzzing from a day packed with waterfalls, festival streets, and little unexpected stops.

It was a breeze to drive back home — the journey gave us just enough time to wind down and soak in the last of the day’s Autumn light. Between the cozy leatherette seats and intuitive tech, it was one of those drives where you can just focus on the scenery and conversation.

I felt beyond satisfied that I had packed so much fun into a single day, with great weather to boot. A little bit of nature and a little bit of festival activities were all I needed to let loose and enjoy myself. And yes, having a car that made the trip effortless certainly didn’t hurt!

All in all, this was a 10-out-of-10 experience for me. The Buick Encore Avenir GX has been thoughtfully designed for impeccable road handling, and it truly lived up to the hype.
