Toronto just got a new back alley take-out window for breakfast sandwiches

Gold Standard is now open behind Reunion Island Coffee Bar in Roncesvalles Village.

The new take-out counter specializing in breakfasts on a bun is a collaboration between Reunion Island Coffee and The Federal and is open for walk-up orders, inside the cafe, and for delivery from UberEats.

On the menu the signature and namesake sandwich is The Gold Standard, formerly, the favourite staff meal served exclusively to the brunch shift at The Federal, and now, newly available for public consumption.

This baby starts with a grilled English muffin dressed with green onion oil and loaded with cheddar-scrambled eggs and can be topped with optional add-ons including bacon, kale, aioli, pickles, and/or hot sauce.

According to a press release supplied to Daily Hive, the origin story behind this singularly focused new take-out counter is as follows:

Adam Pesce, owner of Reunion Island Coffee Bar, realized he had space for a kitchen and demand for a food program, but no concept, equipment, or expertise. He asked his friend Zach, one of the owners of The Federal, for advice on what to do in the unused space. “I would sell breakfast sandwiches,” Zach recalls telling him, “I would sell OUR breakfast sandwiches”.
