Bo Bichette takes step towards returning to Toronto Blue Jays lineup

With less than a week before the MLB postseason begins, the Toronto Blue Jays got some good news regarding Bo Bichette.

Bichette took batting practice on Tuesday, and it went well, per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.

Matheson added that Bichette hasn’t yet tested his knee by running.

The 27-year-old shortstop has been out since Sept. 6 with a left knee sprain. That injury is expected to keep Bichette out for the remainder of the regular season, but the Blue Jays are hoping he won’t miss postseason baseball.

The Blue Jays have already secured a playoff spotĀ and are looking to lock down first place in the AL East Division. If they finish with a top-two spot in the American League, they’ll also earn a first-round bye — which would help ease the pressure on Bichette to return to the lineup.

Toronto could elect to play Bichette at the designated hitter position, getting his bat back in the lineup while they wait for him to return to full health.

Just six games remain in the regular season, beginning Tuesday with a three-game series at home to the Boston Red Sox. The Blue Jays will finish the regular season with a three-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend at Rogers Centre.
