The Toronto Blue Jays have completed a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates, but they’re not getting a player or draft pick in return.
Right-handed relief pitcher Brett de Geus is on his way to Pittsburgh. Heading back to Toronto is simply “cash considerations.”
While the exact dollar figure of this deal was not revealed, the limit on MLB cash considerations is $100,000.
Splitting last season between three MLB teams, de Geus appeared in four games with the Seattle Mariners and seven games with the Miami Marlins. The 27-year-old made just two relief appearances for the Blue Jays in September.

The journeyman reliever also appeared in 47 MLB games in 2021 but has otherwise been a minor leaguer throughout his career.
