The Toronto Blue Jays have added some depth to their roster in the form of free agent catcher Ali Sanchez.
The 27-year-old Venezuelan has signed a minor-league deal with the Blue Jays, according to a report from Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi.
The Blue Jays, continuing to build out their depth, are in agreement with catcher Ali Sanchez on a minor-league deal with an invite to spring training. The 27-year-old split time in the Marlins and Cubs systems last season, appearing in 31 big-league games with Miami.

Expect Sanchez to challenge for a backup catcher role in spring training behind Alejandro Kirk. If Sanchez doesn’t earn a spot on the major league roster, he’ll likely play with Toronto’s Triple-A team in Buffalo.
Sanchez joins the Blue Jays organization after appearing in 31 MLB games with the Miami Marlins last season. He spent the majority of 2024 in Triple-A.
The 6-foot-1 right-handed batter also appeared in two games with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2021 and five games with the New York Mets in 2020.
