Blue Jays fans are getting FOMO seeing Semien make World Series

The Toronto Blue Jays aren’t going to be winning the World Series this year, but that doesn’t mean that their fans might not be emotional seeing the trophy handed out.

On Monday night, former Toronto second baseman Marcus Semien advanced to the World Series for the first time in his career after his Texas Rangers came out on top over divisional rivals Houston Astros in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Semien played just one season with the Blue Jays before signing a monster seven-year, $175 million deal with the Rangers in November 2021.

His year in Toronto couldn’t have gone much better from a statistical standpoint, as he finished third in American League MVP voting by crushing 45 homers to go along with 102 RBIS and a .873 OPS before signing the megadeal with Texas.

While Toronto had given some thought to bringing Semien back, he ultimately received a better offer than the Jays were willing to make. While he struggled a bit in 2022, Semien returned to the All-Star game for the second time in his career this season and is now set to be playing on baseball’s biggest stage.

Admittedly, Semien hasn’t exactly been starring these playoffs, putting up just a .192 batting average with 10 hits, two RBIs, and eight runs scored in 12 games in the 2023 postseason.

Still, Toronto fans had plenty of opinions seeing it play out.

Meanwhile, other fans pointed out the possibility of Semien being joined in the Fall Classic by former Jays Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Gabriel Moreno, who are playing in Game 7 of the NLCS tonight for the Arizona Diamondbacks against the Philadelphia Phillies.

In any case, whoever he’s playing, Semien and the Rangers will take to the field Friday for their first World Series appearance since 2011.
