Toronto Blue Jays suffer heartbreaking World Series loss in Game 7

The Toronto Blue Jays couldn’t get the job done, as they came within two outs of eternal glory.

They got heartbreak instead.

Toronto had a 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth inning, but a Miguel Rojas home run off Jeff Hoffman tied things up, and it was the Los Angeles Dodgers who eventually stormed back to a 5-4 victory in extra innings to silence a stunned crowd in Toronto.

The Dodgers’ winning play came off the bat of Will Smith, who hit a solo home run off Shane Bieber in the top of the 11th inning. It was as devastating a World Series loss as could be, as the Blue Jays came so close to finishing the job.

It was Alejandro Kirk who grounded into a season-ending double-play to finish this one off.

The Blue Jays had a good start to this one, with Bo Bichette launching a three-run home run in the third inning. AndrĂ©s GimĂ©nez added an RBI in the eighth inning. It wasn’t enough, as the Dodgers became the first team to repeat as world champions since the 1999 and 2000 New York Yankees.

Gimenez was also in the centre of a heated moment in the middle of the game, as he was hit by a pitch by Dodgers reliever Justin Wrobleski. Both benches cleared after the moment.

Toronto had all the chances to win it after that tying home run, as they left the bases stranded in the bottom of the ninth.
All of Max Scherzer, Trey Yesavage, Chris Bassitt, Louie Varland, Hoffman, Seranthony DomĂ­nguez, and Shane Bieber threw pitches in this one.
There is still a lot to be proud of for this Blue Jays team, as they pushed to the absolute brink of winning it all, despite nobody giving them a chance before the season started.
Although there are many positives, this one will sting quite a bit because of how close they came to bringing the World Series back to Canada.
It’ll be a long winter in Toronto.
