This fund is donating $500,000 to food banks across Canada

Since the beginning of the pandemic, food insecurity has become an increasingly prominent issue for families, with current reports stating that more than one in seven Canadians struggle with this problem.

But now there’s a way you can help — and it’s as simple as baking some of your favourite treats. Intrigued? Hold that thought.

In an effort to combat the issue, Becel is donating $500,000 annually to community food programs across Canada through its Kind Hearts Fund initiative. Basically, any time you buy any of the brand’s various spreads or cooking oils, you’re helping to support Canadians who turn to local food programs.

In addition to product donations, the focus of this yearā€™s Kind Hearts Fund initiative is to tackle issues on a larger level, by helping to fund identified needs for that group that inspires longer-lasting impact. This type of assistance is something that food support programs need but is easily lost amongst much-appreciated food donations.

Becel’s extended efforts include helping organizations build and maintain the essential infrastructure needed to get good quality food products to those in need. The needs are as unique as the communities they serve, from assistance with transportation and cold storage solutions to repairs, maintenance, and even backpacks for school programs.

The best part? All you have to do to support the cause is purchase Becel products — a brand that’s been a mainstay in Canadian kitchens since 1978. Ranging from a variety of plant-based spreads to oils — Becel products are ideal for countless baking and cooking needs.

So if you’ve been looking for an excuse to make a batch of your favourite baked treat, this is your sign. Becel’s website is home to various recipes — such as this one for classic soft and chewy chocolate chip cookies — all of which will provide the inspo you need to get cooking and baking. Or maybe this is the time to load up your fridge or pantry with staples like olive oil, avocado oil, and the brand’s newest creamy, vegan margarine made with oat milk?
