We asked the founder of BOLO how to balance fitness goals and work life

Work, fitness, social life.

There are only so many hours in a day, and it can sometimes feel like a struggle to manage everything all at once — and unfortunately, for the most part, keeping up a regular fitness routine seems to be the first thing to fall off the wagon.

If you’re in a similar situation — constantly going at full speed trying to fit everything into a busy schedule — it’s not impossible. Caleigh Rykiss (aka @caleighfit), the founder of Body Love Inc (BOLO), wants you to know this. So we asked her how to make it happen.

After starting her career as a television journalist and producer at CTV’s eTalk, Caleigh sparked an interest in competitive boxing. After ten years in the industry, she then transitioned into writing full-time as a freelancer while pursuing multiple certifications in personal training so she could use her own passion for boxing and fitness to help train others.

It was then she realized that the venues and facilities in Downtown Toronto weren’t addressing her various needs and passions; where were the places where you could get work done, get a good workout, go to a hair salon, or get a healthy meal or hearty snack to fuel your day, without having to commute to a million different places?

“I just knew it was my calling to create this functional, efficient space where young urban professionals could just get more done and be more supported in every area of their life,” she says. And so BOLO was born.

When asked about her advice for maintaining a good balance between work, life, and a wellness routine, Caleigh says, “I think first and foremost, fitness needs to be fun. My advice is if you don’t like how you’re exercising, you’re never going to stick to it! Try something different and new! People come to BOLO as a mini vacation, an escape from their lives — not just to move their bodies and burn calories. I have yet to hear somebody say that they’re sorry they came.”

“I think you just have to remember that you’ll always be glad you did it, even if you’re really tired beforehand. Even for me, there are days where I’ve had a long day and I’m fatigued, and I would rather just go home and watch television,” she says.

“But I think to myself about how I’ll have a bigger smile on my face coming to BOLO first, doing a class, and then going home and watching television.”

You’re not alone in feeling unmotivated occasionally, too. Caleigh says, “A lot of people view me on Instagram and at the gym as someone who has everything together and is constantly motivated, upbeat and always has energy, but that’s definitely not the case. We’re all human!”

And although working a busy schedule can sometimes really take it out of you, you don’t have to struggle to make it through the day. “You need to eat food that you enjoy that also has nutritional value — CLIF Bars are a great example of that. They’re so good! Eating something that will sustain your energy all day and that won’t make you hungry an hour later and that you also enjoy is the most important thing,” Caleigh says.
