Athletes' Olympic village has reportedly run out of condoms

It sounds like Olympic athletes are keeping busy even when not competing in their respective sports.

The athlete’s village in Cortina d’Ampezzo has reportedly already run out of condoms.

What makes this story all the wilder is that these athletes didn’t justĀ run out of condoms. We are now in Day 7 of the Winter Olympics, but according to an anonymous athlete who spoke with Italian newspaper La Stampa, they were all used up much quicker.

“The supplies sold out in just three days. They promised us more will arrive but who knows when,” the athlete said.

Milano Cortina 2026 is the most geographically diverse Olympics ever held, and has multiple athlete villages. The village in Cortina features modular housing for athletes competing in bobsleigh, luge, skeleton, alpine skiing, and curling. Other villages are located in Milan, Livigno, Predazzo, Bormio, and Anterselva.

A longstanding tradition, Olympic organizers have been handing out free condoms to athletes since the Summer Games in 1988.

At Paris 2024, organizers gave out 300,000 condoms to athletes — enough for two a day per athlete. According to La Stampa, just 10,000 condoms were provided for athletes at Milano Cortina.

Fewer athletes compete in the Winter Olympics than in the Summer Games, but clearly, they underestimated things.
