The Toronto Argonauts aren’t wasting any time in celebrating their victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Sunday night’s Grey Cup.
And they’re hoping their fans can join them in a celebration.
Today, the Argonauts announced that they’ll be hosting a celebration for their championship rally, located at Maple Leaf Square just outside of Scotiabank Arena.
The event will get underway Tuesday at noon, though fans are encouraged to show up starting at 11 am to secure a spot for the celebration. There will be a live DJ, giveaways, and speeches from players and team staff as part of the celebration, which is expected to end at 1 pm ET.
The win was the Argonauts’ 19th Grey Cup, the most of any team in the CFL. While things were close for much of the contest — Toronto was losing 10-9 at halftime — the Argonauts blew the doors wide open in the fourth quarter, picking up 24 points to make the final score 41-24.
Perhaps inspired by the halftime performance by the Jonas Brothers, Toronto left no doubt who was the better team on Sunday.
Including three playoff wins, the Argonauts won six of their final seven games to close out the season. Though they were without starting quarterback Chad Kelly, who was injured in the Eastern Final against the Montreal Alouettes, Toronto was able to hand Winnipeg their third consecutive Grey Cup loss.
And it was backup quarterback Nick Arbuckle who had the game of his life, throwing for 252 yards and two touchdowns to win Grey Cup MVP. However, Toronto’s defence was arguably the bigger story of the day, intercepting Winnipeg QB Zach Collaros four times to help propel the Argonauts to the win.
“You look at our last little bit, I don’t think anybody was doubting — in our locker room — that we’re the best team in this league,” said Argonauts head coach Ryan Dinwiddie.
