Annex Hotel reopens as accommodation for Toronto’s healthcare workers

Toronto’s Annex Hotel has reopened its doors to become an accommodation provider for the city’s frontline workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the hotel, they are calling the healthcare workers “heroes in our hotel.”

Private donors have covered the costs of rooms and cleaning for frontline workers through the end of June, and the Annex Hotel said it would assess its ability to continue after that.

Given their long hours, the Annex has provided nurses, doctors, and healthcare support members a place to stay, away from their families and close to their hospital.

The hotel has also launched an online store to allow anyone to purchase items for the “heroes in our hotel.”

After putting the idea out to the community, the Annex Hotel said it took less than a week to fill the 24-room accommodation.

The Annex Hotel is a high tech, low touch accommodation that requires no host or staff physical interaction. All its services are provided online and through SMS.

It says that healthcare guests have been able to book their rooms, receive an entry code, and let themselves into the three-storey building and their room.

The Annex Hotel is located at 296 Brunswick Avenue.
