Air Canada and WestJet deny 'secret fare' deals offered earlier this week

Just days after Hopper announced that it has partnered with Air Canada and WestJet to offer “secret fares,” it turns out these fares don’t exist.

Earlier this week, the Montreal-based airfare app said that its secret fare deals began on May 2.

With this feature, they said that participating carriers would be offering as much as 35% off on over 60,000 routes to international destinations like Tokyo, Melbourne, Paris, Barcelona, Rio De Janeiro, and Costa Rica.

While Canada’s two largest airlines were initially on that deal list, it appears both have pulled out.

“WestJet does not provide secret fares,” spokesperson Lauren Stewart confirmed to Daily Hive.

“Due to the confusion this has caused in the marketplace we are severing ties with Hopper. WestJet has always offered our guests low fares and we will continue to do so through all of our selling channels which include WestJet.com, online travel agents, and other partners.”

Air Canada also denied claims of secret deals through Hopper.

According to industry travel site TravelPulse Canada, Air Canada’s vice president of global sales Duncan Bureau said, “we do not have secret fares with Hopper that disadvantage other distribution partners.”

Daily Hive reached out to Hopper for comment, but they had not replied at the time of publication.
