The Toronto Police Service has arrested a 55-year-old man for the stabbing of a city staff member, which occurred on Tuesday night.

On August 4, the city said a staff member was stabbed by a client at one of Toronto’s interim housing programs at 55/65 Broadway Avenue, close to Yonge Street.

According to police, the stabbing took place at approximately 7 pm.

It is alleged that the man, Darren Hynes, approached the staff member at a local temporary shelter, stabbing her and “rushed at other staff while brandishing a knife.”

Police say security was notified and held the man for police.

“The woman was transported to a local trauma centre with serious injuries,” the release says.

Hynes was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Assault with a Weapon, and Weapons Dangerous.
