A 26-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a transport truck in the city’s north end on Tuesday morning.

Police say they responded to a report of a collision near Alness Street at Supertest Road around 7 am.

According to officials, a 26-year-old woman was crossing Alness Street when a white 2000 Freightliner commercial tractor that was pulling a blue coloured trailer, driven by a 52-year-old man, turned east on Supertest Road.

The woman was struck, officers say, and suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The driver of the truck reportedly failed to remain at the scene and was later located by Traffic Services investigators.

He is now cooperating with officers, police say.

Traffic Services investigators are conducting a canvass for video footage and witnesses. As such, anyone with security or dash camera footage of the area or incident is asked to contact investigators.
