York Regional Police are investigating a residential fire at a Markham home that left three family members injured and a 12-year-old boy missing on Sunday.

According to police, on Sunday, May 17, shortly after 10 am, officers, York Region Paramedic Services, and Markham Fire and Emergency Services were called to a residence on Bur Oak Avenue after a report of a fire.

Police say when they arrived, they found three people with injuries, and they were transported to hospital.

Investigators say while the fire was extinguished, significant structural damage continued to prevent entry into the home.

They also said that there was a family of five who lived at the location.

“A six-year-old boy, a 14-year-old boy, and the mother, a 41-year-old woman, are all in hospital in critical condition. The father was later located as he was away from the residence at the time of the incident,” said police. “A 12-year-old boy has not yet been located.”

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area to please come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7541, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online.
