Wonderful Washington: Silver Lake Park is the perfect family camping spot (PHOTOS)

With well-kept campgrounds, picnic shelters, showers, trails, and even horse stables, Silver Lake Park is the perfect destination for your next family adventure.

The park is accessible year-round and is located in the beautiful Mt. Baker area.

Information on how to prepare for your trip and stay safe while on your hike is available from waparks.org and parks.wa.gov. Always remember to leave no trace, pack out what you pack in, stick to designated trails, and refrain from feeding wildlife — and please note that irresponsibly taken selfies (even if they look great for the ‘gram) can be fatal.

How do you get there? 

From Seattle, follow the I-5 North to Cook Road in Skagit County, exit 232. Then, take WA-9 N and WA-542 E to Silver Lake Road in Whatcom County. Follow Silver Lake Road into Silver Lake County Park.

The drive will take approximately 2 and a half hours.

 What’s there? 

The Silver Lake Park campgrounds offer RV campsites, tent sites, cabins, as well as a group camping space. The well-maintained site features a large picnic shelter, water and electric hookups, vault toilets, outhouses, as well as horse stables for overnight boarding.

Those interested in water sports can rent rowboats, pedal boats, canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards at the Silver Lake Day Lodge for use in the lake. The park itself offers various hiking trails, including a horse-friendly Black Mountain Trail.

Campsite rates begin at $18 for residents of Whatcom County and $25 for Non-Whatcom County residents. We recommend buying firewood at the Maple Falls convenient store or at the campground itself for the best rates.
