In a press conference held alongside the White House’s Coronavirus Task Force, President Trump outlined the Center for Disease Control’s new 15-day guideline to impede the spread of COVID-19.

“We’re announcing new guidelines for every American to follow,” said Trump. The new set of suggested rules is a test-run to see if the US is able to slow community spread.

“We’d much rather be ahead of the curve than behind it, and that’s what we are.”

Among instructions for folks to stay home and isolate if symptomatic is the suggestion that all gatherings with more than 10 individual attendees be canceled or avoided.

“If you are sick, no matter who you are, please stay home,” said Dr. Birks, a leader on the task force. “[This] will only work if every American takes this together, to heart, and responds as one nation, and one people,” added Birks.

The CDC’s new guideline asks Americans to witness the following:

  • No gatherings of more than 10 people
  • Practice hygiene
  • Work from home (if possible)
  • Do not visit seniors, nursing, or long-term care homes
  • Use drive-thru, pickup, or delivery options where available
  • Avoid travel and visiting areas of congregation (e.g., shopping/restaurants)

Trump added that a vaccine candidate has “entered phase-1 trial.”

With coronavirus on the rise, the Center for Disease Control is reminding individuals who attend events and gatherings to monitor their health for signs and symptoms of COVID-19. And if you’re not feeling well, they recommend staying home at this time. Also, due to unexpected cancellations, please check the event you plan to attend is still taking place.
