Microsoft gives gamers the first look at the new Xbox Series X

May 7 2020, 6:16 pm

Microsoft has finally lifted the veil on their upcoming next-generation gaming console, showing off Xbox Series X gameplay for the first time during their #InsideXbox showcase.

Though the presenters repeatedly mentioned during the Thursday press conference that no Xbox Studios titles would be shown, there were quite a few reveals dropped from third-party developers.

“Hundreds of titles are already in development for Xbox Series X thanks to our amazing partner community,” Xbox wrote on Twitter. “Stay tuned for more announcements throughout the summer and Xbox 20/20.”

Many of the titles revealed during Thursday’s showcase were trailers rather than gameplay; any in-game sequences used in those trailers were rendered and playing on the Xbox Series X hardware.

Here’s what was shown:

Bright Memory

Bright Memory is a stunning first-person action game set in the future. According to presenters, it was developed by a single individual at FYQD-Studio.

Dirt 5

Codemasters is back with the latest installment of the wildly popular rally racing franchise Dirt. This time, the visuals and dynamic environments take on a new brilliance running on the most powerful console ever made.

Scorn

A single person’s passion project, Scorn has been talked about for years. Finally hitting the big stage, Ebb Software’s Gieger-Esque horror game looks to take full advantage of this new hardware.

CHORUS

From Deep Silver and Fishlabs, CHORUS is the futuristic Star Fox game that no one asked for but everyone is going to play.

Madden 21

Straight from the MVP’s mouth,Ā Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs introduced the world to a throwback teaser for Madden 21, featuring a look at the growth and past of the franchise.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

Dated visuals mix with extremely fascinating gameplay mechanics feature heavily in this Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 trailer.

Call of the Sea

The highlight of the entire InsideXbox showcase, this narrative exploration puzzle game published by Raw Fury and developed by Out of the Blue looks to be an adventure worth taking.

The Ascent

This twin-stick shooter features a polished story and gorgeous cyberpunk-inspired visuals. Play solo or co-op in this isometric story-driven shooter.

The Medium

From the folks that brought up horror games like Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, and Observer, comes this tale of intrigue and scares in the battle between two realms. Notably, the team at Bloober contracted Silent Hill’s composure to assist and write the score of The Medium.

Scarlet Nexus

Anime styles are heaping in this Bandai Namco-published title. Featuring invading beings and psycho-telekinesis agents, whose only job is to hunt the monsters down and destroy them.

Second Extinction

Head back to a post-human Earth to clear out hostile species and reclaim the planet for humankind in this first-person co-op game featuring terrifying-looking dinosaurs.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Side-stepping the main plot of the Yakuza franchise, Like a Dragon features Ichiban Kasuga, one of the previous game’s support cast. Fight to regain favour and family in Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla

First revealed a few days ago, Ubisoft Montreal’s newest iteration on the Assassin’s Creed franchise takes players to Europe’s dark ages. Featuring Norse mythology, Viking tradition, and new gameplay mechanics, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla looks to fill those very large shoes left behind by the previous installment.
