Greyhound to require all US passengers to wear face masks next month

Starting May 13, all American passengers aboard Greyhound buses will be required to wear face coverings as a preventative measure to hinder the further transmission of COVID-19.

Children younger than two-years-old and those unable to wear face coverings due to medical conditions are exempt from having to wear a mask.

“As we continue to provide vital transportation nationwide, it is important that we continue to make temporary, yet necessary, changes to our policies in order to create a safe environment for all our customers and team members,” Greyhound Chief Executive Officer Dave Leach said in a press release.

The transport company already requires its drivers and staff who interact with customers to wear face coverings while they work.

Greyhound’s new policy is expanding on those already in place in select cities and US states by applying it across its entire intercity bus network nationwide.

The company has also implemented a series of enhanced cleaning protocols, including frequent routine cleanings of all locations as well as thorough sterilization of buses after every trip.

Additionally, it has introduced the process of ozonation, which the release describes as an “extensive procedure developed to destroy harmful bacteria and has been proven to kill viruses, including the novel coronavirus.”
