Best known for his role as “Screech” in Saved by the Bell, Dustin Diamond died at the age of 44 on Monday after battling a three-week fight with cancer.

“Dustin did not suffer,” Roger Paul, Diamond’s spokesperson, said in a statement to CBC.

“He did not have to lie submerged in pain. For that, we are grateful.”

Diamond was hospitalized last month in Florida with carcinoma, a type of cancer that starts in cells that make up the skin or the tissue lining organs, such as the liver or kidneys.

Diamond’s former costar Mario Lopez took to Twitter to share his condolences.

“Dustin, you will be missed my man. The fragility of this life is something never to be taken for granted. Prayers for your family will continue on…”

Along with starring in Saved by the Bell from 1989 to 1993, Diamond was also featured in the fifth season of Celebrity Fit ClubThe Weakest Link, and Celebrity Boxing 2.

In December 2013, Diamond appeared on an episode of OWN’s Where Are They Now? and became a house member in the 12th season of Celebrity Big Brother.
