New contemporary art center is set to open in First Hill next month

First Hill is receiving a brand-new contemporary art center next month called the Museum of Museums — or MoM for short.

The MoM hosts two formal exhibition spaces, three additional on-site museums, rotating installations, murals and sculpture, a theater, weekly art classes, pop-ups, and a conceptual gift shop.

Creators of the museum artfully planned the space, with nearly every inch of the property art-activated.

The museum hopes to “empower and inspire our local arts ecosystem through exhibition, education, and conversation about the role of the artist, philanthropist and collector.”

Out of the MoM’s gallery spaces, one is dedicated to large-scale sculpture and immersive installation. The other is dedicated towards a more traditional exhibition. Each gallery is set to host three main exhibits a year, with openings the first Friday of February, June, and October.

The MOM will be open Wednesday through Thursday from 6 to 10 pm, and Friday through Saturday from 12 to 6 pm. They’ve experienced delays in permitting and zoning and are still awaiting final approval from the city. Opening day is expected for sometime in November.

“This year has been nothing but rollercoaster and delays, so at this point we are just taking it one day at a time,” a spokesperson told Daily Hive. “Since we will open at 25% occupancy we are not able to host any opening parties, so we are reluctant to name one big opening launch.”

General admission costs $10, with no charge for children 10 and under.
