Coachella has been postponed due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak.

The highly anticipated festival typically occurs over two separate weekends, and both have been postponed until October. Now, the event will take place on October 9, 10, and 11, and October 16, 17, and 18, 2020.

The festival was initially set to take place from April 10 to 12 and April 17 to 19.

The lineups for both weekends of Coachella this year were set to feature big-name artists, including Calvin Harris, Travis Scott, Flume, 21 Savage, Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey, and more.

“At the direction of the County of Riverside and local health authorities, we must sadly confirm the rescheduling of Coachella and Stagecoach due to COVID-19 concerns,” the festival organizers said in a statement posted on the official website.

“While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff, and community very seriously. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials.”

Those who purchased tickets for the original dates in April will be honored for the rescheduled event, and patrons will be notified by Friday, March 13 on how to seek out a refund if they are unable to attend on those dates.

Events involving mass congregations of people are continuing to drop like flies amid the growing panic surrounding the coronavirus outbreak, including Austin’s South by Southwest (SXSW) and SXSW EDU events, which were announced to be canceled on Friday.

The cancelation of SXSW had a devastating ripple effect not only through the disappointment of fans and ticket-holders, but also to local businesses, venues, vendors, and many other service industry staff, production companies, and partners. Workers in these various industries depend heavily on the revenue produced by the massive event, and they are suffering the consequences of its cancelation.

Similarly, the widely popular Ultra Music Festival has been postponed by the City of Miami and will now take place on March 26, 27, and 28, 2021.
