Luckily for tortilla lovers, Birrieria La Plaza, the self-proclaimed best tacos in Portland, is still open for business during this trying taco time.
Known for their Birria — a traditional Mexican beef stew that is cooked slowly for hours with seasonings and spices — this taco truck is a little off the beaten path, but it’s worth both the trip and the potential wait in line.

The tacos here are an adventure in flavor and texture. “Our Tacos de Birria are the best tacos in Portland. Succulent and juicy Birria with cilantro & onion. Try them by dipping in a cup of consume for the ultimate experience,” reads the menu description.

Ask any taco connoisseur and they’ll tell you that if it doesn’t drip down your arm, you’re not really eating a taco. That being said, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more furiously flavor-packed bite to eat anywhere in Portland.
As the truck’s headlining act, the Tacos de Birria are like sloppy joes, if every part of the meal was vastly improved in almost every way.
