Outstanding Oregon: Soak in the beauty of Wahclella Falls (PHOTOS)

Nov 20 2019, 6:51 pm

Wahclella Falls is easily one of the most beautiful falls in all of Oregon. The spectacular display of aqua power drops 65 feet from a tiny gorge, and fans out into a crystalline curtailed into an open pool below.

Even the name itself, ‘Wah-cleh-lah’, beckons the outdoor adventurer in you to visit this beauty.

For your own safety, please make sure you are prepared before heading out on your next adventure. Information on how to prepare for your trip and stay safe while on your hike is available from OregonStateParks.org and  PortlandOregon.gov. Always remember to leave no trace, pack out what you pack in, stick to designated trails, and refrain from feeding wildlife — and please note that irresponsibly-taken selfies (even if they look great for the ‘gram) can be fatal

Where is it?

Wahclella Falls is located in Oregon, near Cascade Locks. This incredible waterfall is open year-round, and is accessible for hikers of all abilities. It recently re-opened at the end of August 2019 after being closed due to the aftermath of 2017’s Eagle Creek Fire.

How do you get there?

To get here, travel east from Portland on the I-84 until exit 40. Turn right from the Bonneville Fish Hatchery, and right again (so you’re heading south) until you reach the trailhead and sign for Wahclella Falls.

What’s there?

The hike to this beautiful location is relatively short, with a 2.4 miles round trip. The total elevation gained at the end of the trail is around 320 feet. You can bring along a warm blanket, some hot drinks, or snacks and sit by the rocks to enjoy the stunning beauty of Mother Nature.
