What to eat in Portland today: The Waffle Window's Rose City Tribute

We love breakfast. As an outlet, as a people, as a species, breakfast and their accompanying accoutrements make up for some of our favorite meal memories.

So, what if we told you there’s a little window in Portland where one can swing by and snag some delicious waffles, made to order, to indulge in the sweet or savory side of this pocketed breakfast cake?

The Waffle Window is a treat that Portlandians love to snatch up while they’re out and about town. It’s the perfect sweet spot, and date ender in town. Unfortunately, they have been hit pretty hard by the recent closure of the economy and the shift in “normal” life.

“Like many many others in the world we have been blindsided by the coronavirus outbreak. We are still taking orders for take-out and online delivery at Waffle Window Hawthorne but business is hurting badly,” reads the company’s blog post.

The Waffle Window shares that they have begun reopening their location on Alberta Street, with minimal hours, in recent days.

What to order

This is one of those rare food establishments in which throwing a dart at the menu and just ordering that is going to brighten your day. Everything here is a tremendously wonderful dish.

However, the Rose City Waffle is something I would gladly enjoy as any meal. Featuring their signature fluffy and yet somehow crispy waffle, rose cream, rhubarb sauce, and Portland strawberries. It’s simple, elegant almost, and every bit of it is a sweet slide of freshness and flavor.
