There is a magical place in the Beaumont district of Portland that calls for all sorts of attention from travelers and foodies of all nationalities and homes. People flock to Pip’s Original Donuts & Chai by the droves, the highlight of their offerings being their house-made flight of Chai tea.
You can find Pip’s Donut & Chai on NE Fremont Street on the Eastside of Portland, and once you get there, we hope you’re ready for some of the city’s best donuts and a remarkable selection of Chai.
Chai — or Masala Chai as it’s traditionally known — is a long-standing warm beverage made by brewing black teas with a variety of Indian spices. Originated by those in the Assam, India, region in the 1830s, Chai has become a staple for the caffeine-inclined.

Serving up tiny (state-fair style) donuts of all flavors and a wide range of Chai Teas, Pip’s Original is a PDX favorite.
Recently, the company launched a mobile version of their offerings that is available for rental to add that extremely tasty addition to any party, event, or occasion.
For just $12.95, fans of Chai can dive into a flight of five 6oz tasters of Pip’s main Chai menu. This includes traditional mixes and house-blends.
Flight of Chai
Smoky Robinson – Campfire chai. Smokey, cinnamon, clove, vanilla.
King and I – The Thai favorite reimagined. Woodsy, fragrant Thai tea, ginger, cardamom.
Ginger Rodger – Spicy chai. Ginger, nutmeg, clove, sun-dried Thai Chile.
Heart of Gold – Toasted coconut chai. Tumeric, green tea, clove, ginger.
Emmylou – Herbal chai. Lavender, chamomile, fennel.
A personal favorite is the Smoky Robinson. Somehow Pip’s manages to capture all of the teeth-clattering spices of a tradition Chai, and add in the sensation of sitting around a campfire on a cold fall night.
