Protesters in Berlin form 5.5-mile physically distanced human chain (VIDEOS)
Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Berlin, Germany, on Sunday to peacefully demonstrate against the various injustices produced from racism, discrimination, and social inequality.
Organizers of the event, #Unteilbar, estimate that at least 20,000 people assembled in the country’s capital to form a physically distanced human chain that extended over 5.5 miles from the Brandenburg Gate to the Neukoelln neighborhood.

The chain, described by organizers as a “bond of solidarity,” is a compromised solution to issue a form of protest during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“We will not endanger each other, we will not have large crowds or crowds as we know from demonstrations,” they explain in German. “And yet we can show that we are many who stick together and stand for each other.”
Protesters maintained an appropriate distance from one another while holding on to colored ribbons to illustrate their unity. They also adhered to other health and safety protocols, including wearing proper facial coverings.
The various sections of the physically distanced chain were divided between several organizations to support and signify the specific causes important to them.
Here are some images that others have captured from the protest:
