Oregon Arts Commission to host Poetry Out Loud online May 28

May 28 2020, 8:14 pm

While the celebration may not go as originally planned, the Oregon Arts Commission has transitioned this year’s Poetry Out Loud event into a virtual one, offering an inside look and celebration of our region’s most prolific poets and students of the art form.

On Thursday, poetry fans can gather on the Oregon Arts Commission Facebook page for a special livestreamed event that highlights one of Oregon’s longest-standing artistic endeavors: poetry.

To ensure that the annually anticipated event doesn’t fade away during this new social climate, the Oregon Arts Commission has invited every student that was set to participate in the annual State Poetry Contest — now canceled due to the pandemic — to read their planned poetry pieces during Thursday’s event.

Featuring special guests like former Oregon poet Laureate Kim Stafford and the state’s newly appointed Poet Laureate Anis Mojgani, tonight’s presentation will be a spectacular one.
