Oregon reports 45 new confirmed coronavirus cases, two more deaths

On Friday, the Oregon Health Authority confirmed 45 new known cases of COVID-19, and two new fatalities.

At the time of writing, the number of known cases in Oregon sits at 3,864, and 147 fatalities.

According to Oregon Health Authority, the new cases reported today are in the following counties: Clackamas (five), Clatsop (two), Curry (one), Jackson (three), Linn (two), Malheur (four), Marion (eight), Multnomah (11), Polk (one), Umatilla (one), Washington (10).

“Oregon’s 145th COVID-19 death is a 93-year-old woman in Polk County, who tested positive on May 2 and died on May 20 in her residence. She had underlying medical conditions,” reads the report.

The OHA is also reminding people that federal authorities recommend wearing masks in public, and that “staying home and avoiding all non-essential contact with others continues to be the most important thing all of us can do to stay healthy and keep others healthy.”

The restrictions in an executive order passed down by Governor Kate Brown have recently seen their first loosening. Instituting a new phased reopening plan, the state will reevaluate how to approach the coronavirus on a county-by-county basis as businesses look to reopen.
