7 food trucks in Portland that will leave you in a food coma

Nov 20 2019, 4:28 pm

Portland isn’t Portland without the plethora of delicious food trucks we have in this city. Serving up authentic food from cuisines from every corner of the globe, food trucks often serve up more delicious food than some actual sit-down restaurants. And with the portion sizes and prices, you really do get a bigger bang for your buck.

While it’s hard to rank food trucks when all of them are so darn good in their own way, here are some of our favorites. Check out the seven food trucks in PDX that will leave you in the tastiest food coma of your life.

You can’t really talk about food-coma inducing food trucks without mentioning Desi PDX at least once. The Indian inspired food truck is run by foodie and chef Deepak Saxena who takes his craft very seriously. The menu is full of delicious, and healthy Indian food that often feature exciting modern twists on classic Indian dishes. Expect to find “local fare with Indian flair,” at Desi PDX, with unique menu offerings such as Masala Pulled Pork, and Tandoori Tempeh Curry.

Soul food is taken to the next level at Kee’s Loaded Kitchen. Run by Kiauna Nelson, the food truck serves up gigantic (and we mean, gigantic) portions of comfort food. Expect huge platters of mac and cheese, collard greens, ribs, wings, shrimp, and cornbread that also comes with dessert on the side. You’ll have enough for leftovers and a little more if you buy a plate from Kee’s Loaded Kitchen.

This vegetarian and vegan food truck has been around for a long time (since 1998 in fact) and with good reason. The Indian food at Bombay Chaat House is made with great care and love. All the spices are freshly ground which means the food’s flavour is authentic and feels like home cooked Indian fare. Our personal favorites are the Btata-Vada, crispy potato balls, served with tamarind chutney on the side, and the shahi paneer curry, a curry filled with Indian cheese, almonds, coconut, and spices in a creamy sauce.

Chicken and Guns has personality like no other. Their Latin American style chicken is served in a gorgeously rustic outdoor seating area that even has a fireplace. The oak and mesquite fired chicken is off the charts delicious, and comes with a choice of crispy potatoes or salad, and two different sauces — Chimichurri and Peruvian Aji.

This is the perfect place to grab some perfectly steamed, fluffier than clouds, baozi, or steamed Chinese stuffed buns. Whether you’re looking for a snack, or a delicious breakfast on-the-go, Bao Bao’s owners Sabrina Zhang and Randy Richardson have got you covered. Their pork bao with spring onions is pretty much as close as you can get to bao nirvana.

This is a bad pun, but we’re in love with Fried Egg, I’m in Love. The food truck on Hawthorne Boulevard, who say they make the “best breakfast sandwiches” in Portland, do whip some some pretty darn delicious egg sandwiches. Their Smells Life Protein Spirit is a mouthwatering combination of fried egg and cheddar, all on toasted sourdough bread with your choice of bacon, ham, house vegan patty, or homemade sausage. Yum.

This amazing food truck serves up West African cuisine — and they do it well. Their Jollof Bowls are super flavourful and very filling. And their fried plantain chips are caramelized and just plain yummy. It’s the perfect place to grab a quick lunch, and enjoy the flavours of West Africa.
