Soup dumplings are the star of the culinary show that takes place at XLB. The restaurants non-nonsense and passionate dedication approach to their craft, means that their dumplings are out of this world. Shrimp wontons, chicken and cabbage dumplings, tofu and shiitake dumplings, and popcorn chicken bites are some popular choices. But their soup dumplings or Xiao Long Bao are what you really want to go for. Artfully pleated dough is stuffed with ginger and garlic seasoned pork filling and a fragrant pork broth, all of which burst in your mouth in an orchestra of flavour.

Chin’s Kitchen doesn’t play around when it comes to dumplings. Their Northeastern style Chinese dumplings are a perfect mixture of dough and juicy meat and vegetable fillings. The restaurant has generous portion sizes at good prices, which makes a trip down to Chin’s all the more worth it. Our personal favorite is the seafood dumplings, a plate of juicy parcels of shrimp, eggs, and Chinese leeks all encased in perfectly pleated doughy wrappers.

The chewy dough exterior is wrapped lovingly around seasoned pork and vegetables, and is one of the highlights of the menu, alongside the eggplant tempura and grilled salmon skewers.

Nepali dumplings, or momos, are often left out of the conversation when it comes to dumplings. Which is a pity, because momos are pretty darn phenomenal. Nestled between India and Tibet, and influenced by the flavours of those regions, momos are a very popular dish in Nepal. You’ll see why at Sherpa Kitchen with just one bite of their tender beef momos. Also try their vegetable momos stuffed with tofu, peas, and cabbage.
