Over the weekend, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United States ticked above 500,000.

In late January, a man in Snohomish County, Washington, became the first confirmed case of coronavirus in the United States. Now, less than three months later, the number of cases in the US has risen above 500,000.

According to data gathered by Johns Hopkins University, the number of known cases of coronavirus in the United States sits at 547,627. This includes 32,988 patients who have recovered, and 21,662 who have lost their lives due to the virus.

Hardest-hit areas like New York have begun to see a leveling off in the increasing number of cases in their state and among their people. In a Monday press conference, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo stated that “the curve is flattening.”

While numbers continue to climb, the steep nature of this growth has been slowed thanks to many states issuing stay home orders.

At the time of writing, no closures or stay home orders have been lifted or loosened, as governments at all levels continue to urge people to isolate and distance themselves to further stem the spread.
