“The Pop Tart tasted like freedom and rebellion and independence.”

The release of the much anticipated Gilmore Girls reboot, Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life, is fast approaching. Out on Netflix November 25th, there’s not much time before you’re finally learn what Lorelai, Rory, Luke, Sookie, and the rest of the gang have been up to in the past decade.

Since you’ve probably started thinking about your viewing party, we thought we’d help you plan a little. After all, food is essential to any party but even more so to a Gilmore Girls party.

Check out 7 treats to have at your GG party and where to find them in Montreal:

Pop Tarts

A breakfast staple in the Gilmore house, Pop-Tarts could frequently be seen on the coffee table, in the toaster, or in the mouths of our lead protagonists. That is why, before you sit down for your 4-episode viewing, you should stop by Esquina and pick up several of their scrumptious vegan pop-tarts.

Apples

Though apples were not beloved by either Lorelai or Rory, they were an important food in the show, namely because Lorelai ate a lot of apples when she was pregnant with Rory. To get your Vitamin A boost, head to the Jean-Talon Market pre-GG screening and grab a bag of the juiciest red delicious apples you can find.

Pizza

Pizza is a movie night must. Every time the Gilmore Girls spend a night in watching their favourite classic movies, there is pizza in the equation. Pick up a pizza from Montreal institution, Amelio’s, located in the McGill Ghetto.

Pie

Luke’s Diner always has a mouthwatering pie sitting on the counter, and of course, Lorelai and Rory often partake. Whether they grab a slice for breakfast, for dessert, or to-go after a long day, pie makes an appearance in several different episodes. Make your pie dreams come true by grabbing any one of the unbelievable pies sold at Rustique Pie Kitchen.

Ice Cream

Ice Cream is the necessary break-up food. When Dean broke up with Rory, Lorelai insisted that Rory wallow on the couch with ice cream in hand, and of course she gave in. Grab some dipped soft serve from La Diperie, or pick up a pint of your favourite flavour from Bilboquet. Either way, ice cream must be part of your Gilmore viewing party.

Burgers

The amount of burgers that Lorelai and Rory eat on a weekly basis is seriously astounding. Almost every time they’re in the diner (aka every day) they seem to be eating one of Luke’s famous hamburgers. Pick up a mouthwatering burger from Le Gourmet Burger downtown or Burger Royal in the Plateau and pretend you’re sitting in Stars Hollow.

Coffee

The very first scene of Gilmore Girls opens with Lorelai begging Luke to give her yet another cup of coffee. In the famous words of Lorelai Gilmore, “I need coffee in an IV.” Head on over to any one of these marvellous cafes in the Plateau and be sure to buy the biggest cup they have.
