As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to climb in the province, Quebec Premier Francois Legault said today that four more people have now died as a result, bringing the total number of deaths in the province to five.

Four out of those five deaths were people who lived at the same seniors’ residence, he noted.

“Of course, I wish to offer all my condolences and sympathies to the people close to those people,” he said.

The deaths come as 42 new cases have now been identified in the province, bringing the provincial total to 181, said Legault.

Out of the 181 cases, Legault said 10 people have been hospitalized as a result, and another 10 people are in intensive care.

Earlier this week, Quebec health officials announced the province’s first coronavirus-related death.

The announcement came from Legault, who said the man was a senior from the Lanaudière region.
