Quebec reports 29 new coronavirus-related deaths

The Quebec government revealed that the province’s death toll associated with COVID-19 has increased to 150 with 29 new deaths being announced since Monday afternoon.

Legault also revealed that known cases in the province had increased to 9,340 (up by 760 from Monday) and mentioned that 593 citizens are hospitalized, and 95,186 cases have turned up negative.

“We are soon reaching the peak,” says Legault. “Though encouraging, the battle is not yet won. If we want to go back to a normal life in May, we have to remain vigilant in April.”

Legault said it remains the “top priority” of the government to protect the most vulnerable people in the province.

Quebec is one of the global leaders when it comes to screening tests, according to the premier, hence the consistent influx of known cases throughout the province.

The premier stressed that with Easter weekend approaching, “it’s really important that we don’t have physical gatherings.” He said it’s the part of religious leaders throughout the province to enforce that people gather virtually either by phone or video calls.

Legault said that for Quebecers who do go outside, they are to remain two metres (six feet) away from people and are urged to wash their hands when they return to their homes.
