Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante announced today that the city plans to table a motion to ban single-use plastic in the spring of 2020.
In a series of tweets, Plante and councillor Laurence Lavigne Lalonde said they are “going to war” against plastic and styrofoam which includes everything from dishware to cutlery and straws, that can take over 100 years to decompose.
Plante says her government plans for the city to be completely “zero waste” by 2030.
