Huge immersive LED projection show is opening in Montreal this week

Montreal is currently in Red Zone, Level 4 – Maximum Alert — the government’s strictest tier in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19. Between 8 pm and 5 am, Quebecers must not leave their homes except in cases that justify travel. Travelling between regions is “not recommended,” per the government, and all COVID-19 protocols (indoor mask-wearing, two-metre physical distancing, and frequent sanitization) must be followed.

Your spring break plans just got a lot cooler: a new immersive gallery and light show is opening in Montreal this week.

OASIS Immersion is a new permanent installation at the Palais des Congrès that’s officially opening on February 25. Consisting of three galleries and two immersive light shows, it’s designed as a contact-free walkable exhibition.

In order to comply with the provincial curfew and COVID-19 protocols, the site will close at 7 pm every night, and a maximum capacity of 30 to 60 people will be upheld depending on the size of each of the gallery’s rooms. Tickets are also only available online in order to limit the safe number of visitors.

Featuring surround speakers, laser projectors, and ambient LED installations, the space is expected to be a sensorial delight. The first exhibition, titled “Inspirations,” is composed of six immersive experiences.

Themed around celebrating innovation, the productions follow the journeys of Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques, Montreal YouTuber Émile Roy, and pianist and composer Alexandra StrĂ©liski. They also present some of the world’s most fascinating architecture, recognize Quebec talent, and showcases the Danish concept of the “hygge” way of life.
