The report valued cities with the best public transportation based on a city’s network reach, reliability, frequency and affordability.

SmarterTravel’s rankings also took into account how easy the system is to use for travellers, factoring in colour schemes and language options.

Enter: the STM.

“Between its colour-coded subway lines and wide-ranging bus network, Montreal’s public transportation will get you just about anywhere you need to – without being over-complicated,” reads the report.

Praise for Montreal went on to highlight how our transit network has a “handy list of major landmarks for visitors,” referring to Old Montreal, the Saint-Joseph Oratory, and the Jean-Talon Market, along with each metro’s stations nearest stop.

The TripAdvisor-network site summed up Montreal’s ranking by complimenting the STM’s flexible fare options: the $3.25 one-pass ticket, the 10-trip package ($27) and the unlimited pass that offers one day ($10), weekend ($13.75) and monthly ($83) options.

Montreal ranked among these nine other cities in the world with the best public transit, according to SmarterTravel:

  • Tokyo, Japan
  • Paris, France
  • Hong Kong, China
  • Moscow, Russia
  • Sydney, Australia
  • Zurich, Switzerland
  • Singapore, Asia
  • San Francisco, California
  • Sao Paulo, Brazil

Ride that STM with pride, Montreal.
