The 'No Pants' metro ride returns to Montreal next month

The cheekiest event of rear year is returning to Montreal next month.

Because, anytime you’re instructed to show up to an event “with pants,” you know something interesting is about to go down.

The ‘No Pants Subway Ride‘ returns to the city for the 2020 edition (except we call it a ‘Metro Ride’ because, Montreal.)

Participants are asked to meet “at the Sherbrooke Station on Sunday, January 12th with pants at 2:00 pm.” After passing the turnstiles, all pants are off.

The No Pants Subway Ride is an annual global event started by Improv Everywhere in New York in 2002.

According to the Improv Everywhere website, The No Pants Subway Ride is a celebration of silliness and nothing more, absurdity for absurdity’s sake. Organizers urge guests to “try not to look too hard for a political message, charitable cause, or sponsorship of any kind.”

According to the Montreal event’s Facebook page, the eventually-pant-less route is planned as follows:

  • 2 pm: Meet at the Sherbrooke Station on the Orange Line
  • 2:30 pm: Take off your pants and ride the metro
  • 4 pm: Post-pantless chat, meet up, pose for photos, hang out at Saint Houblon on St-Denis

To keep within the spirit of the event, organizers ask participants to refrain “from being loud, obnoxious, and bothering other riders. Be respectful as if it were any other day.”

Pantless riders are asked to leave metro passageways clear and open for riders to flow freely to and from trains. Nobody wants a metro hooligan, especially when they’re not wearing pants.
