A 15-year-old girl in Montreal was shot and killed on Sunday in the Jean-Talon region.

In a phone call with the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), media relations officer Caroline Chèvrefils confirmed the girl was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting.

At just after 6 pm on Sunday, two passengers in a parked car near Jean-Talon were approached by a second vehicle before opening fire. The 15-year-old girl was hit by a bullet and rushed in critical condition to hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

A man standing near the cars was also shot. Police say he fled the scene but was found a short while later, having collapsed from his gun shot-related injuries. He was transported to hospital and is in “serious condition.”

The SPVM says both suspects, who were in masks, fled the scene in their vehicle.

Chèvrefils says “no additional update” has been given and says an investigation is still ongoing.

Police did not release a motive for the attack.

This was the fifth homicide of the year in the Montreal metropolitan area.
