François Legault to make another COVID-19 announcement tonight

Apr 8 2021, 12:41 pm

Quebec Premier François Legault has added yet another COVID-19 announcement to his schedule.

According to the premier’s daily agenda, he will be joined by Health Minister Christian Dubé and the director of public health, Dr. Horacio Arruda, at 5 pm from Montreal on Thursday evening.

The press conference was a late addition to his daily itinerary, having been added at 8:15 pm on Wednesday night.

No additional details were provided as to what the announcement is regarding but throughout the pandemic, Legault has generally used the 5 pm press conferences to announce changes to public health rules.

This past Tuesday, Legault used a 5 pm announcement to tighten public health guidelines across Quebec Red Zones.

As of Thursday, fitness centres in Red Zones are mandated to shut down, places of worship must reduce their max capacity to 25 people, and high school students must return to the “hybrid model,” meaning they have to go back to alternating between in-person and virtual classes.

On Wednesday, public health added 1,270 new COVID-19 cases to the provincial total, Quebec’s eighth consecutive day of reporting over 1,000 new cases.
